As somebody else in another thread replied,if it was such a great tank, they would've kept on building them after the War! Yes,it had a good gun, great armor, but the engine was crap! Most modern tanks, even the substandard ones could run rings around a King tiger, and engage it from outside the King Tigers gun range.
In the documentary they do interviews with tank crews from WWII that kind of give you perspective as to why the Tiger was so intimidating and in some cases feared. Shermans were initially outgunned by the Tiger. So it wasn't as easy as tank verse tank, there were some very strategic moves in order to take down a Tiger.
by Artie Bucco » 24 Jun 2004, 02:00. IIRC The churchill was the first Western tank to take out Tigers to knock out Tigers. 2 were destororyed on 2/27/43 by Churchills of the North Irish Horse. A few weeks later the Tiger that was renovated at Bovington was knocked out by Churchills. Tony Williams.
August 24, 2023 ~ KSA. This week’s Supertest addition is the Tiger II (T), a Tier VII German heavy tank. Inheriting the iconic angled shape of the King Tiger, the machine features a well-performing 88 mm gun known for its high armor penetration (203 mm for AP shells and 237 mm for APCR shells) that delivers 240 HP of damage per shot. The VII Tiger I was one of the fiercest and most feared tanks of the Second World War. Its deadly 88 mm gun, seemingly impenetrable 120 mm armor, coupled with the ghostly tales it carries, traveled from soldier to soldier and proved for a gut-wrenching combination. It struck as an imposing figure on the battlefield, and at first, Allied tanks
Because the American T-26/M-26 Pershing arrived late in the war, and the British Centurion not at all, only the Soviet IS-2 serves as an example of a heavy design that was fielded in large battlefield numbers. The Soviet drive to cut off enemy forces in East Prussia during Operation Solstice (February 1945) is a prime example of this conflict.
GPU: ATI Radeon 4870 X2. Kind of a war buff and I got to thinking if an old german king tiger can stand a chance against an american M1 Abrams. I mean the King tiger was the baddest tank ever built during WWII and even though the M1 abrams is advanced and everything old russian T-72's have been known to blow them up.
The pak43 is one of the best conventional guns in the game, its high pen and velocity (combined with the pretty good scope on the tiger ii) means you preferably want to be at range (it was meant to engage from 4km irl. Fun fact, the longest range tank-to-tank kill in history was scored by a king tiger at 4.5km on a t-34-85).
